Market Watch

By now you have are being reminded continually that our market and many markets across the country, have become buyer’s market, that your home has lost 2-3 years of appreciation in the last year and that there are more than 1,000 more homes on the market now than a year ago. Like many things, there are upsides. If you are in need of a larger home, it’s a great time to buy. The same characteristics that are true of homes in our price range are also true in homes that are more expensive. That means you may sell for a little less, but you will also buy for little less. In a move up market that’s good news. Other good news is that it looks like interest rates are moderating and maybe even dropping. The Fed has increased short term interest rates consistently for the last 2 years but looks like it has decided to stop doing that for the time being. Long term rates, like mortgage rates are dropping in response. They have currently leveled off at less than 7%.

Bev’s Fall Recipe

After the first of the year Mark and I decided to hit the diet again. We have had success with a modified South Beach Diet and here is one of our favorite dinners.

Preheat oven to 450. Rinse boneless skinless chicken breasts and pat dry. Place in clay baker or oven proof frying pan. Season both sides fairly heavily with dry Italian seasoning. Bake uncovered for 10-15 min. While chicken is baking sauté sliced mushrooms in olive oil. After first 10-15 minutes of bake time turn chicken draining any excess juices into the mushrooms. Turn chicken over and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes. When chicken is done deglace pan with a little wine or water and add to mushrooms. Add about 1/3 cup of evaporated milk to mushroom mixture to make a sauce for the chicken. We usually have this with a salad or steamed asparagus.

Homeowner Tips!

Did you know a 30 year mortgage can be paid off in about 19 years by making one additional payment per year? The savings are significant but more than that it’s one of the best wealth building concepts out there, and one available to every homeowner. We suggest to every buyer at closing that they commit to making that extra payment every year out of their tax refund before using it for anything else. Now the tip has been passed on to you.
